  1. The kids will be bringing 100 items to add to our community gorp (not our teacher friends.) Get ready to celebrate though.

  2. I have been learning a lot in Mrs. S and Mrs. T's classroom. I have been very compelled to find out the lower achieving students, as well as the students who perform at an exceptionally high level. I was very surprised to find out where certain students are at. When Mrs. S and I talked about a few of these students I was able to tell a little bit better, and was able to find a few ways to work with these students a little differently than the other students. There is one little girl in the classroom that just absolutely cracks me up, and I always make sure to stop by her desk when I make my rounds through the pods to see what she has up her sleeve that day. I am getting very excited to teach my lesson plan on Arthur and friends on Monday and Tuesday. It seems to me that I have been placed in a great classroom, and couldn't have asked for better help along the way.

I witnessed my first student get sick in class, and was able to take note of how to deal with this type of scenario, because as we all know, it will happen in my classroom. I also got to watch my first swimming lesson and see the kids having a blast in the pool...made me jealous because I never had that opportunity growing up!

However, today was just a really great experience for me all around. I was able to go to a nursing home with the students, and see them light up the older folks eyes with songs and hand made valentines. It was very cool to see the kids interacting with the different generation than they are used to. While I was there, I saw Price Lab's old principle. He talked about "the good old days when he could walk around the school." It was very interesting to take note of how things have changed since then. Seeing the kids in this situation was very fun for me, because not all of the kids always get to see their own grandpa and grandmas.

This has been a truly educational week for me, as I have seen Mrs. S and Mrs. T interact in many different settings: Field trips, trips to the locker room, health room, etc. I am very happy with the way things have gone this week.

  3. This week was a true test for me. I was able to teach my two lessons, focusing on Marc Brown, on Monday, which was Valentines Day, and Tuesday. Monday went okay, but I just couldn't calm the kids down, and relied on Mrs. S to help me gain attention on more than one occasion. I feel a teachers pain when he or she has to teach on Valentines Day. Other than the excitement for Valentines, everyone was pretty well behaved, and the lesson went over very well.
The second lesson, on Tuesday, also over Marc Brown, went over without any problems at all. The kids were well behaved, and I was much less nervous. I couldn't have asked for a better end result. The kids were involved in discussion, answering some of my higher thinking questions, and able to participate in our character check.
The Arthur Portrait Picture activity I had created went over so well with the kids. They picked their favorite characters, showing me their understanding and interest in Marc Brown, and drew them as well as I expected. Some describing words were used much better than others for the characters, but after getting to know the students I had a general knowledge that that could happen with some of the students. Overall, it was a great week to see the kids work and listen so well.
