Thank you for all the hard work you have done these past weeks. You will be planning your lesson soon with either Denise or Mary. The kids are loving learning about Japan so it will be fun. There are many resources for you to use. Don't forget to include video or visuals in your lesson. Also, don't forget to attend the Elementary Literacy Conference on Friday. I can't believe we are going to meet Marc Brown!
Hi Everyone! Thank you so much for the great job you are doing to help the students in Unit II. Our unit on Japan is going great and the students are so excited to learn about the similarities and differences between our two countries. I've talked with several of you regarding your lessons and look forward to helping you develop these over the next few weeks. This week is very special for Price Lab School because the author Marc Brown will be visiting our school on Thursday. He will also be speaking at the Elementary Literacy Conference on Friday. Because the elementary teachers at Price Lab put on the conference we will not be having school that day. You are welcome to attend the conference and even help out if you want. It is a great conference and it is free to UNI students. We hope to see you there!
ReplyDeleteMy first week at Price Lab I couldn't help but notice the functionality of the classrooms. The classroom is organized well for its size. I like how there are different divided stations such as the literacy/math corner, pets area, and the themed unit corner. I think this setup keeps children from getting distracted and facilitates differentiated learning. Another great aspect of having stations is that when students are done with their assigned work they are able to go to a station they'd like and extend their learning by choice. This also keeps children from distracting others around them who are still working since they can keep busy by themselves or with a group. When I am a teacher I would like to incorporate this feature into my classroom.

It has been a great opportunity to get the chance to work with Mrs. Tallakson and Mrs. Stichter in their first and second grade classroom. In my first few weeks in the Price Lab I have noticed that the kids are having a fun learning about Japan. It is nice getting to know the students and the different ways they each think. I think the classroom is a perfect fit for these students. They have so many learning centers in the classroom because of its size. It is great that they have a big classroom because they can set up their desks many different ways. Right now the desks are set up like the islands of Japan with each of the main islands names above them. I think this is great because the students have a constant reminder of the islands of Japan. I really like how the when the children are done with an activity and have some free time that they have many choices they can do. They can go interact with the classroom pets or go to the area with the Japanese kitchen. I look forward to finishing up my lesson and see how much the students have learned!
ReplyDeleteThanks Stephanie and Justin for the great lessons that you taught this week. The children love having you teach and learned so much. We have been busy trying out some new Japanese crafts like Kanji, origami and Japanese weaving. They love learning about different cultures and comparing them to the customs they have. We are sending postcards to children in Japan who were impacted by the tsunami. The children are also having a sale of Japanese items that they make to raise money for the relief fund. This is a compassionate class!
ReplyDeleteLast week I taught my last lesson and the students really seemed to enjoy it. I gave my lesson over smallest/largest 2 and 3-digit numbers. The game was great for the students to interact with one another while using their knowledge about smallest/largest numbers to figure out a winning strategy. I experienced few problems with transitioning from the game to the worksheet activity, which I thought the students would struggle with before I gave my lesson. Students were able to complete their worksheet with hardly any difficulty, which is great!
